I’m split in half but that’ll have to do
During the week I do freelance work for about 4 organizations. I’m kind of an interim graphic designer for Teresa, who is having a baby. It’s a pretty nice setup for the summer so I can’t complain. It will certainly keep me afloat while I look for a job for the fall.
Falling into the freelance life has been comforting. I love working from home, I like the flexible hours, I have a pretty sweet setup in my bedroom. I drink coffee every morning while answering the stream of emails.
Something I’ve realized about myself is that I am not super into working in person. Working in a cubicle all day really messes with my social anxiety. I hate hearing my co-workers gossipping near me, I hate the lack of natural light, I hate not being able to do chores or whatnot as a break.
I think if I lived back in the day I would have resigned myself to being a stay-at-home housewife instead of finding a job in an office.
Pros of Freelancing
1. Working From Home at a Cool Desk Setup
2. Setting Your Own Hours
3. Setting Your Own Work Rates
4. Organzing Your Own Tasks on a Fun Site
5. You Can Co-Work with Your Friends
Cons of Freelancing
1. Taxes are Complicated
2. No Health Insurance
3. Having to Search for Clients
4. Registering Busines is Hard
5. Making Your Own Contract
We’ll see if I can continue freelancing. It’s been really hard getting repeat clients in the past, so I’m not sure if its sustainable for me. I might just need to find a hybrid job of some sort. But for right now, freelancing is working out just fine.
