ART DIRECTION | PRINT DESIGN | PRINTMAKING
Intermediate Risograph, Nova Community Arts

I love adding printmaking to my designs! It always adds a bit of handmade texture that you can’t get from a computer. For this project, I simply wanted to have fun and test risograph color values and layering. Bright risograph colors make my monkey brain go brrrr. I came up with a campy and fun makeup brand, and used a combination of vector graphics and vintage photos to collage logos, graphics, and advertisements for my hypothetical brand. I was aiming for a 70’s style design with stylized typography and a scrapbook-like layout. I wanted the brand to have a distinctly feminine edge, so I utilized fluorescent pink and fluoresecent yellow risograph inks. I also experimented with the abilities of a risograph printer, creating gradients, overlays, and gradations in my color chart and eventual zine. The fun part of this process is that I was actually able to stand at the risograph printer and push the beep boop buttons for making prints, fix alignments, and change color drums. A hands on experience! Both the poster and the zine were printed on 11”x17” paper at Nova Community Arts and then cropped.
