While the Hollywood Bowl has historically been held up as an elite center for music, the Bowl actually had quite humble beginnings as a local outdoor theater where curch choirs, Shakespeare companies, and all-women orchestras played to a wooden benches of a few weirdos. I wanted to create branding for the Bowl that emphasized the accesibility of the Bowl both historically and in the present day, and drew special attention to the initiatives the Bowl had taken to reach out to all areas of the Los Angeles community. The Bowl might be an exclusive and expensive venue, but I knew with the power of my branding, I could single-handedly lower ticket prices for Sabrina Carpenter. In all fairness, the Bowl does have $1 tickets in the summer for select performances, free shuttle services, and has raised money for the surrounding neighborhood. I drew upon the mantra of the Hollywood Bowl in the 1950’s, “Music for Everyone,” to drive my designs as well as the natural California beauty surrounding the Bowl. You get a great view of the foothills when you’re seated at the Bowl! Utilizing easily identifiable shapes, geometric typography, and basic color system, I created brand guidelines, logo variations, and a whole bunch of printed media that complmented the story of vibrant simplicity and accesibility.
